DT & Construction

Picture 1 Mr Kuy

Here at the Rubicon we work towards a BTEC Level 1 Introductory Certificate in Construction in the year 11 Construction lessons.

This involves practical skills, but also theory work in various skill areas including:-

  • Bricklaying
  • Joinery
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Building Drawing
  • Health and Safety

With units on:-

  • Being Organised
  • Developing a Progression Plan

The work has a bias towards practical skills and assignments, but must also show knowledge of tools, materials and methods etc. to back up the practical knowledge.

The work is all assessed internally as well as by Pearson and leads to a Level 1 certificate when 2 core units and 3 elected units are achieved. The grade levels are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

We also offer D/T and Construction to other groups from 11 to 15 where we teach

  • Basic woodworking skills,
  • Working with other materials ,
  • Using fixed and portable power tools
  • Product design
  • Health and safety

All of these things help students to decide if they would like to progress to BTEC Construction in year 11.
