The ICT department is well equipped with a suite of computers for the students as well as one for the teacher. There are projectors and interactive whiteboards in all of the main teaching rooms. The suite of software includes Microsoft Office and the Adobe design and web premium Software.
The collection of hardware and software at the Rubicon Centre provides pupils with the opportunity to get involved in activities including:
- Using desktop publishing to create documents such as leaflets, posters, business cards and a variety of other documents.
- Using spreadsheets to create useful financial models.
- Using PowerPoint to create presentations.
- Using the Adobe suite of software to create podcasts, videos, animations and websites.
The Keystage 3 students have the opportunity to create working circuits that they have programmed using Kitronik microbit kits. This teaches them how programmed controls affect live situations.
The Keystage 4 curriculum delivered at the centre is delivered through the ECDL syllabus. There is also a BTEC First option for those students who wish to pursue the subject further. The BTEC covers the Online World, A Digital Portfolio as core units and up to two more units of the students choice. This year we have been looking at Web design.
