PSHE (Personal, Social, and Health Education) is an important and integral part of the programme of support which the Rubicon Centre gives to all our students and is delivered alongside the Careers curriculum.

PSHE makes a major contribution to the health and achievement of young people. It contributes to the welfare and safety of our students and underpins their future employability through the personal and social skills which commerce and industry demand from the workforce. PSHE not only helps to increase young people’s independence and ultimately enables them to take responsibility for themselves; it also prepares them for their future life as parents, employees and leaders.

We cover a wide variety of topics in the PSHE programme including but not limited to:

  • Equality
  • Friendship and healthy relationships
  • Risk taking behaviours
  • Prejudice and discrimination
  • SRE (sex and relationships education)
  • Drugs
  • Alcohol
  • Stress management
  • E-safety
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Personal Finance
  • Getting on with parents
  • Body image
  • Global Citizenship
  • Careers and preparation for working life

Students are timetabled weekly PHSE lessons across KS3 and KS4 with whole school themes detailed in the Scheme of Learning

ASK-Applied Skills and Knowledge

Each group is timetabled a daily ASK session.  ASK is normally delivered by the groups Key Tutor and is a 40 minute lesson focussed on The Rubicon Centre's core values: Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and encompasses British Values which gives our students the opportunity to leave school with the skills and knowledge required for living in modern Britain.

Through ASK the school is able to promote the concept of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
