Specialist English Teacher – Full time

Closing date:  Monday 13th April 2026

Interviews to take place Tuesday 21st April 2026

Start date:  September 2026

Salary:  M1 – UPS3 dependant on experience

Due to the current post holder moving to a promoted post, we are looking to appoint an experienced, resilient, patient and enthusiastic English Teacher to lead the delivery of English to GCSE and develop literacy across the school.  Other responsibilities will be based on school need and the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for a new challenge and has a flexible approach, to join a passionate, caring and committed team at The Rubicon Centre.

You will have a track record in raising standards and accountability for the performance of a significant cohort of young people. You will be a confident and effective teacher who can deliver exciting and challenging lessons to classes of up to six students.  You will have an empathetic approach, a passion for supporting children with SEMH and SEND and a proven ability to manage challenging behaviour.

Many of our pupils are below national age-related literacy and numeracy levels when they arrive. Your ability to engage children with SEMH and SEND will be essential and understanding of Trauma informed practice would be a distinct advantage.

You will:

  • Be able to teach and plan within a team
  • Be adaptable and proactive; you must be able to react to the events the day could throw at you!
  • Have demonstrated ability to scaffold and differentiate learning within small group settings
  • Ensure students in your care make good progress
  • Be committed to supporting and raising the aspirations of children with SEMH requirements in a small setting
  • Have the flexibility to teach and plan non-core subjects
  • As a Key Tutor, build positive and productive relationships with students, families and other agencies

We are passionate about supporting our students to overcome barriers in learning and life. For children and young people facing barriers to learning through circumstance, learning difficulties and challenging needs, the level of care and education must go above and beyond, and that’s what The Rubicon Centre Team aim to provide.

If you think you have what it takes to be a part of our team and join us in making a difference to our students and their families, we would welcome your application.

For further information about the school please visit the school website or call us on 01609 533951 for an informal chat.

Completed applications are to be emailed to admin@selbyprs.n-yorks.sch.uk Mandy Carrington, Office Manager.

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate will be required for all posts. This post will be subject to enhanced checks as part of our Safeguarding Duties.

References will be required prior to interview. As part of our recruitment process online search will be undertaken on shortlisted candidates, on information available in the public domain. We encourage candidates to disclose anything that may be relevant to their application.

It is our objective to ensure that job applicants and staff are treated solely on the basis of their merits, abilities and potential. We do not discriminate against any applicants on the basis of any protected characteristics, and welcome applications form all sections of the community.
