Students in KS4 have the opportunity to complete the unit 'Demonstrating Make-Up Techniques' as part of their Level 1 BTEC in Vocational Studies, alternatively, others can complete units from the Hair and Beauty Vocational Taster ASDAN short course.

 

BTEC Level 1 in Vocational Studies: Demonstrating Make-Up Techniques

In this unit, students will;

  • Prepare to use make-up techniques

  • Use make up techniques to provide make-up treatments

 

Students will look at the products, tools and equipment to apply make-up as well as developing an understanding of skin and bone structure.  They will be expected to follow the health and safety regulations relating to hygienic work practices in addition to developing client communication skills and reflecting on the world of work in the hair and beauty sector.

 

As part of their accreditation in Vocational Studies, all students will also complete the core unit 'Developing a Personal Progression Plan' which aims to support student in making appropriate post-16 choices relating to work, education and training.

 

ASDAN Hair and Beauty Vocational Taster Short Course

Students on the ASDAN pathway will be offered an introduction to Hair and Beauty as an employment sector.  The ASDAN course helps students to make progress towards their personal learning and career aims as it increases their knowledge in the sector, thus aiding decision making and guiding their expectations of post-16 study.

 

The Hair and Beauty Vocational Taster contains modules in:

  • Customer service
  • Nail services
  • Basic hairdressing techniques
  • Basic facial treatments
  • Health and safety in hair and beauty
  • Careers in hair and beauty.

 

With the guide of our specialist instructor, students can select a number of challenges from these modules and gain certification.

Careers in Hair and Beauty

 

Vocational qualifications underpin the delivery of Hair and Beauty which highlights the need for transferable skills and employability.  Students are expected to present as professionals and observe the requirements of a working salon.  Career planning is part of any course of learning in the salon and integral to all qualifications offered.
